Hawijch Elders is an emerging talent and a promising, virtuoso Dutch violinist. Since
September 2022, she has been an Artist in Residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel
in Waterloo, where she studies with Augustin Dumay.
In May 2023, she won 1st Prize at the 8th Henri Marteau International Violin Competition, along with three special prizes for the best performance of works by Bach, Reger, and Marteau. In October 2023, she achieved 4th place at the prestigious Premio Paganini Competition in Genoa, Italy.
In 2021, Hawijch received 1st Prize at the Leonid Kogan International Competition for Young
Violinists, as well as 2nd Prize and special prizes at the Odessa International Violin
Competition. She was a laureate of the Dutch Classical Talent season 2021/2022. Earlier,
she won prizes at the 37th ‘Premio Rodolfo Lipizer’ International Violin Competition in 2018
and the Dutch National Violin Competition ‘Oskar Back’ in the same year. In December
2019, she was awarded the Kersjes Violin Scholarship by the Kersjes Foundation at the
Royal Concertgebouw.
Since 2016, Hawijch has been studying with Ilya Grubert at the Conservatorium van
Amsterdam, where she completed her Bachelor and Master of Music with highest honors.
Prior to that, she studied with Benzion Shamir. She has participated in masterclasses with
renowned violinists such as Ivry Gitlis, Shlomo Mintz, Pierre Amoyal, and Emmy Verhey.
Hawijch has performed chamber music with musicians including Valeriy Sokolov and Frank
Braley.
In 2023, she made her debut at Bozar, Brussels, with a performance of Mozart's fourth violin
concerto with the Wiener KammerOrchester under the direction of Augustin Dumay.
As a soloist, Hawijch has performed violin concertos by Beethoven, Sibelius, Britten, Dvořák,
Tchaikovsky, and Paganini, with orchestras such as the Belgian National Orchestra, Real
Filharmonía de Galicia, Orquestra Clássica da Madeira, the orchestra of Teatro Carlo Felice
in Genoa, the Residentie Orkest, Amadeus Chamber Orchestra of Polish Radio, Odessa
Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra.
Hawijch plays on a violin made by Gennaro Gagliano (Naples, c. 1755) and with a bow
made by Dominique Pecatte (Paris, 19th century), both on loan from the Dutch Musical
Instruments Foundation. The violin belongs to the ‘Willem G. Vogelaar collection’ and the
bow to the ‘Tettelaar collection’.
